Outdoor Sketching and Painting
Outdoor Sketching and Painting is held on the second Saturday of every month from 11am to 1pm at a variety of locations in and around the City of Whittlesea council area. Sessions are facilitated by multi-disciplinary artist Bettina Purdie.
“En plein air” or “open air” traditions of painting of landscapes directly from nature in order to fully capture natural light and atmosphere were made popular by impressionists, and remains a popular method of working for modern artists.
The monthly Outdoor Sketching and Painting sessions are not workshops or classes. Events are designed as an opportunity for creatives and artists of any skill level to offer time and space to create, connect and be in community with others.
Participants will need to bring their own art supplies, chairs, and any equipment they may need. Some participants may only need a sketchbook and pencil case, other’s bring watercolours, acrylic paints or oil paints and easels. Participants are able to focus on any subject they choose, whether that be the landscape, urban features, other people in the space, wildlife or flora.
